Photographs of the first immigrant through Ellis Island have been found.
Annie Moore set foot in America on her 15th birthday. She married and had 11 children.
As Ellis Island’s first immigrant (though 11 children seems more of an achievement) Annie has been memorialized in song and with bronze statues in both New York and Ireland. But, until now, there were no known photographs.
Genealogical research led to the discovery of two pictures of Annie. The research also showed that she never left New York. That was news to her family, which had believed that she’d moved to Texas and died there.
